Arsenal are a selling club, admits manager Arsene Wenger.
"The strategy of the club is to sell every year and to buy less expensive players," Wenger told the News of the World.
"We manage at Arsenal to maintain all our football ambitions - national and European -while having to free up - for 17 more years - an annual surplus of £24m to pay for our stadium.
"The club's strategy is to favour the policy of youngsters ahead of stars and to count on the collective quality of our game."
Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has vented too about his frustration over the transfer system, saying it encouraged footballers to become financial "mercenaries".
The London club have already lost the services of star midfielder Mathieu Flamini, who turned down a new pay offer in the close season before moving to AC Milan on a free transfer.
"If I had the power to change anything basic in football, it would be the transfer system which makes mercenaries of players," the French boss was quoted by the News of the World as saying.
"If they are bad ones, they stay and, if they are good, they think only of leaving."
He added: "I have fought for them to earn a very good living, but I impose respect for their contract upon them."
Wenger's words come as the club are working hard to retain the services of Emmanuel Adebayor and Belarus star Alexander Hleb, both recently linked with big-money moves to Italy and Spain.
Arsenal defender Justin Hoyte has dismissed speculation linking him with a move away from the club, according to reports.
Hoyte is a peripheral figure at the Emirates making only two league starts last season and being used largely in the Carling Cup.
Yet despite this the youngster has revealed he is willing to fight for his place under Arsene Wenger.
Seeking to quash rumours that he is to leave North London, with Aston Villa one potential destination, Hoyte said: "There are rumours every day but I am contracted to Arsenal."
Hoyte revealed that Arsene Wenger had suggested he has a future at the Emirates.
"The boss has said great things about me, has good plans for me and I need to show him what I am capable of."
Arsenal will welcome Samir Nasri as their new signing this week.
The Observer says Nasri's transfer to Arsenal will be formally completed this week. Marseille agreed a deal worth a potential £13.3m in June for the 20-year-old attacker, but asked Arsenal not to make the transfer official until this month for accounting purposes.
Though Nasri announced the move on his website in mid-June, his agent had to retract the statement the next day.
