WHAT WAS ALEX HLEB TALKING ABOUT?

Everyone berated Alexander Hleb for predicting that Cesc Fabregas will eventually join Barcelona.

Alex Hleb is convinced former Arsenal teammate Cesc Fabregas will eventually follow him to Barcelona.

"Cesc loves this club," said Hleb. "Now he's at Arsenal but who knows if he'll come back to Barca?"

The original story is that Barcelona contingent to Kuruvchi was to include Andres Iniesta, Carles Puyol and Xavi Hernandez. However Xavi pulled out at the last moment due to his mother’s deteriorating health.

And somehow Cesc Fabregas was invited to take up his place. The Spanish press is reporting that this was as part of Barcelona’s cooperation with Kuruvchi.

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger isn't bothered by reports of the big spending plans of London rivals Chelsea.

"No it doesn't bother me too much," said Wenger.

"I know at the start of the transfer market Chelsea can buy who they want, and I cannot stop that."

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is also set for showdown talks with Emmanuel Adebayor.

The Guardian says Wenger will today meet Adebayor for the first time since the forward indicated he might leave Arsenal. The manager will make it clear to the Togo international that the club will not stretch their wage structure to keep him.

"I don't want to enter into speculation as I don't know what has gone on," said Wenger. "It is difficult to say what is true. A lot of it has been denied; he denies 99% of it. But I don't know."

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger maintains he won't name his transfer targets as a show of "respect" to rival clubs.

"If you don't show respect to other clubs I think that football is moving in the wrong way," Wenger told the August edition of the official Arsenal magazine.

"You cannot come out like [president Ramon] Calderon has done at Real Madrid with Manchester United and tell them you cannot stop a player from leaving.

"You can destabilise any player in the world - that is irresponsible."

Wenger added: "These are big clubs that should be setting an example to others.

"I believe that football now is at the stage where it has become a world sport and the big clubs should have values and vision and set an example.

"If we do not do that in football, then we do not understand the responsibilities that we have."

Theo Walcott has shrugged off the expectations that come with inheriting Thierry Henry's No14 shirt at Arsenal.

"It's just a number in the end," he told the Observer. "It's just a number on the back of a shirt, that's what I think, anyway.

"In five years' time I want to be a regular for Arsenal and England, scoring 20 goals a season. That's a lot, but you have to set your sights high. I want to win the Premier League, the Champions League and the FA Cup. That's the main thing, medals. People go on about money and contracts, but for me it's always going to be about the football."

PSG and Barcelona are willing to bid £5 million for Arsenal captain William Gallas.

The Sunday Mirror says Gallas has two years of his contract left and there have been no indications of an offer of an extension. This has alerted Barcelona, where new manager Pep Guardiola wants to bolster his squad after signing Alexander Hleb from Arsenal for £12m.

Paris Saint Germain president Charles Villeneuve admits they're keen on Arsenal captain William Gallas.

When asked about Gallas' possible transfer, Villeneuve ironically told a press conference that: "I'm delighted. I've been told about it this morning [Monday]. And Paul [Le Guen] as well.

"But for the moment there's no news. We would be happy to be given a ring by William Gallas, very pleased."

Gallas is also a friend of ex-Arsenal star Thierry Henry, who has decided to stay at the Nou Camp.

Bakary Sagna was delighted to see action for Arsenal last week in their friendly against Barnet.

The right-back, who impressed in his debut campaign, faced Barnet and played his first 45 minutes since being sidelined by an ankle injury suffered against Chelsea in March.
Sagna does not want to rush his return, but still feels he should make the opening game of the new Barclays Premier League season against newly-promoted West Brom on August 16.

"I feel better now and I hope that I can feel better and better with every new game," said the Frenchman.

"The last couple of weeks have been hard because it is the first time since my injury that I have been in training."

Sagna told the club's official website, arsenal.com: "I needed to find my performance level again and be prepared to give more than I have before.

"I do think, though, that I will be fit for the start of the season.

"I want to focus on my own game, perform for Arsenal and see what the season brings. Hopefully it will be some cups."
